HARRISONBURG -- The grading system at Harrisonburg Public Schools will change starting next fall.
Superintendent Dr. Scott Kizner said when students apply for college scholarships, letter grades matter more. He says the current grading system puts students at a disadvantage when competing with other high school students.
For example, just as close as Rockingham County, the schools have a different grading scale.
"Our primary motivation to do was to be fair to our students and recognize that we partner Rockingham County Public Schools. We partner with JMU, Blue Ridge Community and Lord Fairfax and all of them are on 10 point scales."
He also said this change will make it easy for teachers grading students that take college courses.
