Man Accused of Bilking Customers Admits Liability in VA Court
CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP)
A man accused of bilking more than $3 million from customers in a computer-purchase scheme has agreed to accept liability and negotiate with the state to make restitution.
Financing Alternatives Inc. founder George Christian's admission of liability came Friday in Chesapeake Circuit Court in a two-year-old civil case.
The state had accused Christian and FAI of collecting monthly payments from consumers for layaway purchases of computer products and then not delivering the goods. According to court records, $3.3 million worth of products weren't delivered to at least 1,765 customers.
Judge Randy Smith directed the two sides to discuss restitution.
Both Christian and FAI have filed for bankruptcy within the last month.
