JMU Spokesman Responds To Timely Notification Concerns

Two recent timely notifications at James Madison University weren't sent out until several days after the crimes allegedly occur ed. Students were just notified Tuesday, about an assault that happened ten days earlier in the 1800 block of Putter Court. The university says they notified students as soon as they learned about it. Don Egle, JMU director of public affairs says safety notifications are taken seriously on the campus. He explained why a notification for the alleged assault on Putter Court was sent days after it's believed to have occurred. "There was a delay because it wasn't reported until late. So in terms of the JMU police sending out a timely notice, It was sent out immediately after the incident being reported," says Egle. He say campus police only found out after a parent reported it to them. A notification for a second assault reporter in the 1000 block of Lois Lane was sent four days later. "The second notice referenced was sent out immediately upon JMU police getting the information from Harrisonburg police," says Egle. A number of students said Friday night, that they regularly get the notifications in a timely manner, and they were not concerned with the latest two. Harrisonburg police are investigating both alleged assaults
