Effect of Social Media on the State of the Union Address
The State of the Union Address used to be a one-sided speech without much room for discussion, but this year, we will see the influence of social media on this event to create a conversation among many voices. Now, any member of any political party has a platform to engage with and react to the president's words and regular people have the opportunity to do that same too.
"Social media among members of Congress is now the rule rather than the exception, and they're using it not just to push information out but to take information in, and really hear from their constituents," said Shana Glickfield with the Beekeeper Group.
The president will host a Google+ Hangout on Thursday as part of the Fireside Hangouts campaign from his administration. He is expected to answer questions about the State of the Union address.
110th American International Toy Fair
This annual event is the largest of its kind in our hemisphere. This year, more than 150,000 toys will be on display at the Toy Fair, all showing off the latest trends you can expect to see on holiday wish lists this upcoming year.
One of the most prominent trends at the fair this year is the use of tablet apps. From toy castles that magically come to life on an iPad to a digital makeover mirror from Barbie.
Here is a YouTube video of some of the toys on display:
Digital Dating Do's and Don'ts
In light of this week's holiday, Valentine's Day, Julie Spira, an online ettiquette expert, has a few pieces of advice for daters.
First, she says, put your smartphone down during the date.
"It sends a bad message to your date, that maybe there's someone more important than the person sitting across the table from you," said Spira.
Next, she advises to avoid posting all those early date details on social media.
"In the early stages of a relationship, share very little about what's going on with your new beau. The reason is, you're dating people, he's dating people, we don't know how many people each other is dating until you've become exclusive and of course had that talk."
If you are in a relationship, avoid losing friends and followers by oversharing.
"If you're posting every hour your play-by-play about your romantic rendezvous, arriving at the hotel, seeing the flowers in the room, going to dinner, sipping champagne, you know, it tends to be a little too much."
Finally, always keep in mind any mutual friends you may have with your significant other. The posts you think are sweet and romantic, could be embarrassing for your sweetheart.
