Here is more information from the stories discussed in Tech Tuesday on the Valley's Fox 10 o'clock news on March 5th.

Helpful Winter Apps

The Winter Wake-Up App will let you sleep without worry about making it to work on time. The app keeps track of winter weather while you sleep. That way if it there is frost or it snows overnight, the app will wake you up early. That way you have plenty of time to make your commute. It's available for free on the Google Play store and iTunes.

The Winter Survival Kit app is there when you need help in an emergency. The red "I'm stranded" button will pinpoint your location and call 911. A gas calculator estimates how long you can run your car with the fuel left in the tank. This app is available for free on the Google Play store and iTunes.

White House on unlocking cellphones

In a blog post by R. David Edelman, the White House advisor on Internet, innovation and privacy, it states the White House will work with the FCC to possibly change current laws dealing with unlocking cellphones and tablets.

This would make it easier for mobile customers to switch carriers.

In his post, he writes, "The White House agrees with the 114,000+ of you who believe that consumers should be able to unlock their cell phones without risking criminal or other penalties. In fact, we believe the same principle should also apply to tablets, which are increasingly similar to smart phones. And if you have paid for your mobile device, and aren't bound by a service agreement or other obligation, you should be able to use it on another network. It's common sense, crucial for protecting consumer choice, and important for ensuring we continue to have the vibrant, competitive wireless market that delivers innovative products and solid service to meet consumers' needs."

National Women's History Month

March is National Women's History Month, and the National Women's History Project has named women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) as the theme for this year's month.

In honor of the month and theme, I will be posting a different biography of an inspiration woman with a background in STEM on my Facebook and Twitter pages.
