JMU Graduate Competes to Become New Face of Hawaiian Tropic

Reporter: Carly Stephenson

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- A recent James Madison University graduate is among five girls competing to become the new face of Hawaiian Tropic.

This year's contest is different. Instead of competing in a Hawaiian Tropic bikini contest., the company is looking for a role model that uses their products, but also focuses on healthy skin.

There are five finalists and Erb is one of them.

Erb said if it had been a bikini contest, she wouldn't have done it.  She has more than 5,000 votes and that number keeps growing.

The promotional video was shot by Hawaiian Tropic in New York City.

Being a former James Madison University volleyball player has helped. Erb said her supporters from James Madison University are helping get the word out.

As a Florida native, Erb used Hawaiian Tropic since she was a kid and she said protecting her skin has always been important. She said she wants people to vote for who they think best represents the brand.

However, there are some things that came to mind for her.

"A summer birthday, I am from Florida, been there my whole life, I love the beach, my friends call me a beach bum, and a hippie sometimes, because that's where I want to be," said Erb.

The winner gets a trip for two to Hawaii and the chance to be in a national print ad in 2014. If she wins, Erb would also become the new spokesperson for an undetermined amount of time.

Voting is open until July 19th.
