Harrisonburg Police Investigate Shooting

HARRISONBURG (WHSV)-- An argument between two men led to a shooting on Monday morning on Franklin Street, according to Corporal Chris Terrell from the Harrisonburg Police Dept.

The two men were drinking and got into an argument.

One man had a knife and the other shot him in the face with a BB gun, according to Terrell.

It happened early Monday morning at an apartment on Franklin Street. WHSV attempted to talk to the people who live there, but no one answered the door.

Neighbors said a family lives there. The man who was shot refused medical treatment. No one was arrested, but the case remains under investigation, according to Terrell. Police did not release names.

 

Fatal Crash in Nelson County

Nelson County Virginia State Police responded to a car crash in Nelson County Saturday evening.

The crash happened at 7:40 p.m. on Route 250, east of Route 6. Police say a 1991 Toyota Camry was driving eastbound on Route 250 when it crossed the center line, ran off the side of the road and overturned.

The driver, Marion S. Martin, 79, of Shipman, Va., was injured in the crash. He was first taken to Augusta Health, and then on to UVA Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The passenger, Josephine S. Brooks, 72, of Shipman, Va., died in the crash. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Police are still looking into the cause of the crash, and charges are pending.

 

Weather Contributes to Tractor Trailer Accident

WINCHESTER, Va. (WHSV) -- A tractor trailer overturned on Interstate 81 Monday morning.

The accident happened in the southbound lanes at mile marker 313.

A strong gust of wind caused the tractor trailer to run off the road, according to state police.

The driver over-corrected and the tractor trailer overturned.

Backups were as long as two miles earlier in the day, but the scene was cleared by about 9:45 a.m.

The driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
