U.Va. Student Dies in Washington, D.C.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The University of Virginia community is mourning the death of one of its students.
Second-year student Mary Shelley Goldsmith of Abingdon, Va., died Saturday night in Washington, D.C., according to an email sent out to faculty, staff and students.
Goldsmith was a Jefferson Scholar and involved with the Alpha Phi sorority. The email says Goldsmith died at a Washington hospital but does not provide details about what led to her death.
The university is organizing counseling services for those who seek them.
Items Found in Search For Missing Nelson County Teen
NELSON COUNTY, Va. -- The search continues missing Nelson County teen Alexis Murphy.
More than four weeks ago she went missing, and the Nelson County Sheriff's Office has not giving up hope of finding her. On Saturday, deputies along with the Lake Monticello Dive Team were looking in the Rockfish River and around Route 29.
Investigators confirmed to our affiliate in Lynchburg WSET that several items were found in the river during their search but have not connected anything to Alexis Murphy at this point.
Tourist Ship Hits Kayak in Virginia Beach
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Police in Virginia Beach say a tourist ship hit two people on a kayak and a man was in critical condition Sunday. The Fire Department rescued the two people on the kayak.
Emergency responders say the man was taken to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.
The woman on the kayak was not injured The Coast Guard is looking into the incident.
