Police Officer Faces Reckless Driving Charge

WAYNESBORO – A police officer once commended for exceptional performance in speed and seat belt enforcement was charged on Tuesday with reckless driving.

Shamica Spears, 27, was on her way to a call last month when she collided with another vehicle driven by a 71 year old. It happened at the intersection of West Main Street and Arch Avenue.

The reckless driving charge comes after an investigation resulted in Spears being found responsible for the accident. She may not have seen the oncoming car due to a building blocking her view.

“We drive our vehicles 12 hours a shift. We're constantly on the road. While we do have to use caution, and we are held accountable to the traffic laws just like everyone else,” said Capt. Kelly Walker.

Spears is still on active duty. She is waiting for a court date to be set at the Waynesboro District Court.
