March 22 is World Water Day, and this year's theme is "water cooperation."

World Water Day 2013: Water Cooperation 

According to this website, water is necessary for the fulfillment of basic human needs. The goal behind this year's theme, water cooperation, is to turn transboundary water sources from areas of conflict to tools for peacemaking.

This website is great for exploring the ways in which water supply affects the human population on a global scale. For example, one statistic on this website is that 85 percent of the world's population lives on the driest half of the planet.

There's even a kids section on the website, if you want to teach your little ones the importance of World Water Day. It's got interactive features and extra reading just for kids.
