It seems like we've been talking about breaking records for months now. First snowfall, now we're breaking record high temperatures (who would've thought after the bitter cold winter!?) in April. We reached 87 degrees at WHSV in Harrisonburg, beating our previous record of 86 set back in 1963.
While the warmth is nice and certainly welcomed, it comes with certain dangers. A Fire Weather Watch is in effect for the higher elevations for the latter part of Saturday. This may need to be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning by Saturday morning. Humidity less than 30% along with gusty winds and low fuel moisture will create conditions conducive to spreading fires.
Remember that it is still spring fire season and burning before 4pm is prohibited in both Virginia and West Virginia.
Be safe this weekend and enjoy the beautiful weather! Don't forget to send us your spring weather photos.
