Forget high winds (for a minute), hello thunderstorms! Our cold front became hung up in the mountains of WV, allowing the Valley to clear out and warm up even further Friday morning. Because of this, the Valley's atmosphere became increasingly unstable. When the front arrived, there was no mistaking it!
I'm going to quote Meteorologist Josh Knight, so I stop sounding like too much of a weather geek:
"What a fun front this has already been, thunder, actual flashes of lightning, very small hail, and then instantly the bluest skies you'll ever see. Ok wind, bring it on!"
And I'm sure it will! Winds will pick up through Friday afternoon with a High Wind Warning in place for the entire Valley until 7pm Friday. Expect sustained winds of 25-35 mph and gusts upwards of 60 mph.
To top Friday off, the first Severe Thunderstorm Watch of the season (for our area) was just issued for the DC/Baltimore Metro areas!
If this is how February is ending, I'm anxious to see what March brings to the table!
Be safe!
