February 5, 2011 - One More Week 'Til Calmer Weather

Just a quick update on this Saturday evening - read all about your work week forecast!

Good evening everyone! I'm sure we're all excited for our Super Bowl Sunday, but we have some things to keep an eye on through next week.

Today we saw mostly rain throughout the Valley during the morning - as expected. However closer to Martinsburg, WV & Hagerstown, MD, freezing rain was reported for several hours. The good news though - temperatures reached the upper 30's to low 40's over the course of the day. On the backside of this system, another quick batch of precipitation came through, bring sleet and rain to northern areas of the Valley. This should be the final batch of precipitation until late Monday night.

A cold front will move through later Monday with a big batch of cold air behind it. On the backside of this system, an upper level area of energy may spur up some isolated areas of snow showers early Tuesday morning. While temperatures may be above freezing (just slightly), the low & mid levels of the atmosphere are below freezing and could support snow.

Finally there's the Wednesday night & Thursday time frame. Remember I said not to get too excited? The GFS & CMC have suppressed this system and has it affecting areas to our south and then pushing off to sea. It is a common bias for the GFS to have issues in this time period, but the CMC has actually been rather on-point with winter storm forecasts this season, therefore that concerns me. The Euro keeps the storm system affecting us with snow. As I mentioned, Monday should be the day that we start to get some answers and get can excited, or angered - haha.

I'll continue to keep you updated - have a great weekend!
