Foliage Report: 10/17

Here is this week's foliage report

Many areas in the mountains, especially in West Virginia are right at peak. A few areas in western Grant and Pendleton counties are actually just past peak.

It doesn't look like too much has changed since last week, meaning there is still time to get out and enjoy the leaves before it's too late.

The rain last week didn't help, and this Saturday looks to be a bit breezy and that can pull down many leaves.

Rick Adkins in Pendleton county reports bright colors along Moyers Gap, between Sugar Grove and Franklin.

Seneca Rocks and the Germany Valley are pretty much at peak right now, and it looks beautiful. That is a must see for this weekend.

Another area to see is Reddish Knob, and it's a beautiful drive up to the top. There is high color in that area.

My recommendation is to drive through West Virginia, once again this weekend if you have a chance. The Shenandoah National Park is now open and showing high color, but it still looks like the best color is in West Virginia right now. Within the next two weeks color should really start to pop along the Blue Ridge and Skyline drive.

Also this weekend is the Autumn Splendor Dinner train in Petersburg, WV. It looks like that will be a great tour this year.

According to the Foliage Network, color is still moderate for the Valley and along the Blue Ridge.

The Valley is still seeing those trees that normally color first like maples, those are bright in color. However many areas are still green.

The days of rain, drizzle, and mist was not the best things for the fall colors.
