Snow started around 12:30pm in Augusta County and around 1pm in Harrisonburg. We're still looking at the same snowfall totals from the noon show. It continues to come down at a good clip and roads are in terrible shape.

Heaviest snow should taper off this evening from west to east around 6pm. Light snows should eventually move out of the area by 9pm tonight. The biggest issue for you on Thursday morning is going to be black ice and slick spots. Temperatures will fall through the 20's overnight. Remember - before we got the heavy snow, many of us had a good dose of sleet and freezing rain. All that is now frozen below the snow, so we have a sheet of ice to worry about.

Areas in higher elevations and on the upslope side of the mountains will see higher amounts due to orographic effects. That's why we've been saying 9"+ for the mountains, while many Valley areas should stay between 4-7". Snow to liquid ratios aren't too great - most are around 8:1 although they will increase slightly as colder air is drawn in. We should get to around 10:1 around 5pm...right when heavy snowfall begins to taper off.
