July 22, 2011 - Hottest Day Of The Year & Goodbyes...

It's the hottest day of the year, but we're only going to get more comfortable from here! Read about it in today's blog.

There's one word for the outdoors today: Gross.

It's just no fun to be outdoors right now with temperatures in the upper 90's and dewpoints in the 70's. This puts heat indicies in the 100's...easily.

Please be safe if you're heading outside for any amount of time this afternoon or even Saturday. We have Excessive Heat Warnings in effect through 10pm Friday for the Valley and a Heat Advisory for Grant & Hardy.

A Heat Advisory will also be issued for Saturday for much of the region - though we'll start to cool on Sunday.

As I say goodbye to WHSV and the Shenandoah Valley - a special thank to you everyone who has been part of this blog experience. I've enjoyed explaining the ins and outs of meteorology and being with you every step of the way during major weather events. Please keep in touch with me via facebook and twitter as I head up to the ABC affiliate in Portland, ME.
