Our First Cool Down... And It's Not Even Fall Yet.
Technically fall doesn't start until September 23rd but cooler "fall like" temps have just moved in.
The cold front is moving through Thursday morning which from the graphic on the right shows that sharp temperature gradient.
However, High pressure is right behind this system moving in, so you would think sunshine, and maybe warm temperatures right?
Not exactly, we do have a high building in behind the front so yes more sunshine is in store for the weekend.
The big difference is going to be this high will shift the winds to the north, bringing that cooler Canadian air right down into the Valley. This is probably going to be similar to our Cold Air Damming patterns we typically see in the winter. The cooler air is being funnelled right into the the Valley.
So the cooler air gets trapped by the mountains to the east and west so it has no where to go. Let's also point out that average temps this time of the year are in the upper to mid 70s.
Looks like we will be stuck with the cooler temps for a few days but enjoy it while you can! Beautiful fall weather, perfect to enjoy many things that the Valley has to offer.
As this high tracks to the east the cooler air will start to lift our of the Valley and we'll see temps rebound back into the 70s.
So enjoy this unofficial kick-off into fall, open the windows during the day but throw that sweatshirt on at night!
