Helping At-Risk Kids

Governor Tim Kaine Tuesday announced improvements to his proposed budget for services for Virginia's at-risk children.

These would include more funding for foster care and adoption efforts and an initiative to serve children in the communities where they live.

Don Driver of Harrisonburg-Rockingham Social Services says one problem is having to send children out of the Valley for treatment programs.

He says, "We would like to be able to drive services so that we can keep those children here, close to our workers, close to their families, close to the support systems they know, the people that have been dear and close to them."
