Modern medicine may be able to help deal with your teen's obesity.
New research finds teens taking the drug Meridia lost significantly more weight, about 18 pounds in a year, than those overweight teens taking a placebo.
This drug acts directly on the brain's chemistry to decrease appetite.
With that weight loss came improved health, such as better cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
But the medicine does have some health affects, the study says Meridia doubles the risk for abnormal heart rate.
