Could seat belts on school buses save lives?
Statistical information shows that taking the bus is the safest way to get to school.
But new research shows school buses should be much safer. 17,000 children are injured each year on buses and that number is more than three times higher than previous estimates.
However, crash tests show higher seat backs and padding provide good protection in front end collisions.
Adding seat beats and shoulder straps actually caused more injuries, to the head, neck and abdomen.
