The annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of Harrisonburg-Rockingham County Bowl for Kids sake fundraiser was held Saturday.

The daylong event at Valley Lanes in Harrisonburg brought out more than 800 bowlers to help support Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Organizers say the turnout this year was one of the largest in the 20-year history and the money it raises is critical to the program.

Executive Director Sue Totty says, "This is our biggest event that we have and as we've set a goal of close to $100,000. I think we are probably going to be well on our way to at least $80,000, which is a major part of our funding for the year."

Totty says it takes about $1,000 to support each child in the program, which means the $80,000 raised so far will make a big impact in the lives of 80 Valley kids.
