Winter is on the way and The Salvation Army is collecting coats to protect kids from those cold temperatures.
The campaign is called "Coats for Kids".
Volunteers started collecting winter jackets yesterday.
For more than twenty years The Salvation Army has been collecting kids coats but they also accept coats for adults too.
Most of the coats are given away on December 21st at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds. So far, nearly one-thousand families have signed up for assistance this year.
Cathie Burleigh from The Salvation Army says this is an easy way to help out the community.
"Go through your closets. Kids outgrow coats rather quickly so you could have some coats in your closets that your children have outgrown but really have a lot of wear left in them and its very easy to drop them off at one of the locations."
Those locations include The Salvation Army, Classic Cleaners, and any Park View Credit Union. They will be collecting coats until the beginning of the year.
