Imagine spending your 14th birthday on a runway.
That's exactly what Lillymae Gunick did Friday as she took her first solo flight at Waynesboro's Eagle's Nest Airport.
She's the first teen to make that accomplishment in the Valley.
After she landed, she received her Federal Aviation Administration Student Pilot Certificate.
The minimum age for for anyone to fly by themselves is 14.
Gunick is an Old Order Mennonite who has been taking lessons since she was only nine.
She took flying lessons before moving to Montana a couple of years ago.
She came back to the Valley for her solo flight.
