Chesapeake Bay Commission to Meet with EPA, USDA

The Chesapeake Bay Commission meets this week in Washington.

Commission members will hear from officials with federal Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Agriculture on what those agencies can do to help states meet restoration goals. Commission members will also meet with members of Congress from Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania on key federal programs related to bay restoration and what it will take to meet restoration goals.

The commission meets Thursday and Friday.

The commission was created in 1980 to advise the members of state legislatures in Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania on bay issues.

The EPA is spearheading a new federally led effort to restore the bay in response to an executive order by President Barack Obama.
