Dominion Customers Have Chance to Voice Opinion on Proposed Increases

Dominion Virginia Power customers will have an opportunity in June to voice their opinions on two rate increases the utility is seeking.

The State Corporation Commission said Tuesday that it will hold public hearings in Richmond on each proposed increase. Written comments also can be submitted.

A June 21 hearing involves the rate the utility charges for the cost of fuel used to generate electricity and the power it buys. The monthly bill for a typical customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours would increase by $8.17 beginning July 1.

Dominion also is asking for adjustments to help pay for replacing aging equipment and other transmission services. The transmission portion of a typical residential customer's monthly bill would increase by $3.84 beginning July 1. A public hearing will be held June 23.
