A new coalition of environmental, labor and religious leaders is seeking a bigger commitment from Virginia's biggest utility to offshore wind development.
VA4Wind launched its campaign at a Richmond news conference Tuesday by promoting the potential economic and environmental benefits of offshore wind power. Advocates said offshore winds have the potential to create 10,000 jobs and power 700,000 homes in
Virginia within a decade.
The group is asking that Dominion Virginia Power invest in a utility-scale wind farm over the next five years.
Dominion responded that it is committed to pursuing offshore energy but continues to study the costs that ratepayers would have to burden.
