Offshore Wind Energy Focus of VA Conference

A coalition of environmental groups and activists are holding a conference on offshore winds in Richmond to encourage swifter government action on clean energy.

Billed as a "Citizens Summit on Offshore Wind Power," the conference Saturday is expected to attract more than 100 Virginians who want to see wind turbines sprouting in the waters off Virginia.

Featured speakers include businessman and Democratic activist Terry McAuliffe and Robert Mitchell of Atlantic Wind Connection, the Google wind grid project.

After the conference, wind supporters will march to the state Capitol and rally in support of their cause.

Advocates say Virginia offshore waters hold great potential for the development of wind power.
