Richmond's mayor is calling for more green efforts by city agencies and workers.
Media outlets report that Mayor Dwight C. Jones issued a mayoral order Thursday calling for actions that improve efficiency and reduce waste and greenhouse gas emissions.
The order promotes telecommuting and alternative work schedule initiative. It also calls for creation of an energy-management plan.
Jones also launched the city's first sustainability plan. He says the goal is to improve residents' quality of life, create a healthy environment and enhance economic development opportunities.
The city already has taken several actions since a green initiative was announced last year. They include a community garden program and construction of the first green roof on a city facility.
