The Bristol Herald Courier reports that the board discussed the issue at its regular meeting Tuesday night.
Supervisor Odell Owens says there is a lot of concern about groundwater.
Abingdon-based Southeast Land and Mineral has proposed drilling four wells in the Benhams area of the county. If the first wells are successful, the company would drill in the northern part of the county.
