WV Approves Plans for Two Gas Wells on Marcellus Shale

West Virginia has approved plans to drill two Marcellus shale gas wells at a Morgantown industrial park.

This map from the USGS shows the extent of the Marcellus Shale formation that oil and natural gas companies are exploring for drilling.

West Virginia has approved plans to drill two Marcellus shale gas wells at a Morgantown industrial park.

The Dominion Post reports that Northeast Natural Energy has started preparations to drill in the Morgantown Industrial Park. The site along the Monongahela River already has conventional gas wells.

The state Department of Environmental Protection issued permits for the wells in March.

City Councilman Don Spencer says he's concerned about potential air and water pollution. Spencer says allowing drilling so close to Morgantown is one reason DEP should provide public notice of permit applications and hold public hearings.

The mineral rights and property are owned by Enrout Properties LLC.
