Montpelier, President James Madison's country home, plans to hold its spring Big Woods Walk next weekend at the Orange County estate.

The guided tour of the James Madison Landmark Forest with Montpelier's horticulturist will be held April 10. It offers visitors a 90-minute journey through the 200-acre old-growth forest, also known as the Big Woods, where trees are up to 300 years old and can be up to five feet in diameter. The forest floor harbors a variety of wildlife and native plants.

During Montpelier's normal daily hours, visitors also can walk along the forest's self-guided trails, including an accessible portion for people with disabilities.
