With school back in session, bullying is once again on parents' minds.
However, bullying today is not like it was when some parents were in school.
A new study reveals that the majority of bullies are girls, and they are doing it online.
One in four girls say they have been a victim of cyberbullying, and one in five admit to being the bullies.
Still, school counselors and school resource officers say those numbers might even be a little low.
School counselor Leslie Trissler say the danger in cyberbullying is the privacy. Things girls might be afraid to say to another student's face are easily posted online for others to see or sent in a text message.
Unlike old-school bullying, kids can't escape cyberbullying. It can happen in the child's own home via cell phone or computer.
"Well, we've had situations where there's constant harassment on Facebook or MySpace, and the interactions continue, and the problem is that the person that's being bullied also continues responding to the bully instead of stopping the interaction, blocking that person and letting someone know that it's happening," says Trissler.
Trissler recomends that parents know all passwords for social networking sites and keep a close eye on text messages.
