Western State Hospital hosted the 27th annual Autumn Games Thursday afternoon.
Seven teams from mental state hospitals across Virginia came to Staunton to compete and have fun exercising.
A total of 55 people made up each team. They enjoyed playing horseshoes, bowling, basketball, and wheel chair relay races.
A recreational therapist, Sue Smiley, says, "The games were started to promote health and wellness in older people in an active lifestyle, and that's what we're continuing today."
Smiley says that the patients also benefit socially through the Autumn Game activities.
