For the Mexican community in the Valley, Friday is a special day to celebrate their ancestors.

The Day of the Dead is a holiday in which Mexican families confront death by setting up a display like ones at Blessed Sacrament Church in Harrisonburg.

Families bring pictures and cook food, immortalizing those they have lost. They show their love for them by having picnics at the person's grave and to try to help span the gap between the living and the dead.

"All of that is trying to span that divide between the living and the dead," says Father Tom Mattingly, Blessed Sacrament Church. "So that somehow they can meet symbolically in a way to celebrate the lives of the people who have died in hope of resurrection in death." is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion.
