The average cost of a traditional Thanksgiving meal is going to cost Virginians more than last year.
The Virginia Farm Bureau Federation says it will cost about $40.74 for a traditional meal for 10 adults. That's up about five percent from 2006.
The Farm Bureau surveyed the price of basic items found on Thanksgiving tables. The menu includes turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls, peas, cranberries, a relish tray of carrots and celery, and pumpkin pie with whipped cream.
The higher prices are due in part to a rise in the cost of turkey, which has risen more than $2 for the average bird. Other prices are higher because of a rise in fuel costs.
