Every year at county fairs, dirt bikes race on motocross tracks but now Augusta County residents may be able to experience that year round. A $600,000 Valley Xtreme Sports Park is in the final phases of planning.

Twelve-year-old Storm Argenbright has been racing dirt bikes for four years, but not just because of the racing. He says it's because of community.

"You get to have friends no matter what. It’s still competitive but everyone’s nice and you get to hang out with family and stuff like that," says Storm.

That’s why his father, Terry Agenbright, is heading up the effort to create an extreme sports park at Expoland in Augusta County.

"We were actually racing at a fair race here and I started talking to some of the other parents and they were like, man, it would be great to have a place for our kids," says Terry.

So he drew up plans. A mile and a half motocross track, a special area for younger riders to learn safety, a skate park and even an official soap box derby track are ready to be built.

Terry says he's not just doing it to get little biking tracks out of back yards. He hopes it will make big difference in the lives of kids.

"Twenty-five percent of kids admit to knowing someone that is using drugs. Obesity is at an all time high. Depression and suicide is at an all time high," says Terry.

Giving them a place to race could keep them away from risky behavior.

"There are just hundreds of kids who need a safe haven a place where they can come and feel safe and grow," says Terry.

Construction on the sports park could start as early as January thanks to donations from residents and businesses. The decision to allow the park will be made at the December 6 zoning meeting where any people opposing it can speak out.
