Waynesboro Sewer And Water Rates

The city of Waynesboro came one step closer to raising sewer and water rates Monday night.

The sewer rate would increase by 46 cents per 1,000 gallons. This increase would pay for upgrades to the sewage system to meet state and federal mandates.

The money will also help pay for a new waste water treatment plant. The council says the increases are necessary, but that doesn't mean all residents were happy about it.

Leroy Wells of Waynesboro says, "Instead of spending $16,000 on the flag pole we were talking about at a recent workshop, let's transfer the same amount to the sewer department. While I know it's not even a drop in the bucket, it is $16,000 less we will have to ask our citizens for."

The motion to introduce the plan was passed Monday night, and the ordinance will be considered again at the December 10 council meeting.
