Tuesday kicked off the beginning of the holiday heavy traffic season, but that doesn't mean that the roads are too bad yet.

While AAA reports that this year's traveling will be up from last year, the roads are still looking smooth so far.

The heavy traffic season encompasses December 19 through December 30 and in that time, it's expected that 1.4 million Virginians will drive 50 or more miles.

But that doesn't include out of state drivers, like Roby Briggs, who was just passing through the Commonwealth.

"I'm going from New Hampshire to Florida and traffic looks great today and hopefully it will be that way, down the road," Briggs says.

AAA says that this year's travelers represent an increase of about 2.5 percent.
