Equine Gift

The owner of a Loudoun County horse farm has pledged more than $10 million through her estate to Virginia Tech's equine center.

The gift from Rallywood Farm owner and manager Shelley Duke will go toward establishing a major emergency and critical-care program at the Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center.

Duke, a member of the university's Board of Visitors, said she wanted to ensure treatment for critically ill or injured horses in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Virginia Tech President Charles Steger announced Duke's gift at a news conference before the formal launch of the university's $1 billion fundraising campaign.
