Papers Endorse Their Candidates

Call it the anti-endorsement. The Concord Monitor of New Hampshire is breaking with tradition, telling readers why they shouldn't vote for Mitt Romney, instead of whom they should support in the GOP race for the White House.

The Monitor says Romney looks and acts like a presidential contender but "surely must be stopped" because he lacks the core philosophical beliefs to be a trustworthy president.

Romney did pick up one endorsement Sunday, from the Sioux City Journal in Iowa.

Iowa's Quad City Times endorses John McCain, while the Dallas Morning News goes for Mike Huckabee.

New Hampshire's Nashua Telegraph and the Dallas Morning News call Barack Obama the best choice in the Democratic field. The Morning News chooses the Illinois senator because of what it calls his "consistent solid judgment" and "poise under pressure."

Iowa's Burlington Hawkeye says Hillary Rodham Clinton is "not a clone of her husband." It says the New York senator is "an independent thinker with progressive ideas." Clinton is also endorsed by the Quad City Times.
