There are efforts nationwide to bring Christmas to the homeless.
In Dallas, as many as 300 homeless people spent the night in rooms at a hotel and got a banquet dinner thanks to the 2007 Christmas Angel Project.
Donations help provide each homeless visitor a backpack with new socks, underwear and other basic needs. The men and women also got stockings filled with treats, plus breakfast bags with food items.
In New York, the YMCA held a community banquet attended by many single mothers and their children. Everyone received a hot meal, and organizers passed out gifts to the kids.
And in San Francisco, it was ham for dinner served at Saint Anthony's church with gifts for all, including pets. One man says he always knows he'll be treated with respect and well fed at the event.
