It's official: the new Clerk of Court, Chaz Evans-Haywood, was sworn in Friday afternoon at the Harrisonburg-Rockingham County Circuit Court to start his eight-year term in January.
Along with Evans-Haywood's family and friends, Congressman Bob Goodlatte was there to support him as he took the oath.
Evans-Haywood says the first thing he is going to do is to look into security issues regarding people's personal information transmitted over the Internet. He says he will also make sure the courts will have the ability to move forward in the most efficient way possible.
"The state library has agreed to come in along with the State Compensation Board to do a top to bottom inventory and evaluation of the office to make sure we are compliant always and to make sure we have all the latest ideas," says Evans-Haywood.
Another new feature that may appear next year would be the circuit court going paperless.
