The emergency room at Rockingham Memorial Hospital is the 7th busiest emergency room in the state.
However, a new health center opening up in Harrisonburg may ease the strain.
A year ago, the Harrisonburg Free Clinic partnered with JMU Health and Human Services to create a clinic that will serve low income and immigrant families.
Dale Carrol, Chief Medical Officer of RMH, says the Community Health Center will serve all families in Harrisonburg, regardless of income or ethnic background.
He says, "This serves all folks in Harrisonburg. As you're aware, the free clinic sees working un-insured. Whereas this clinic will see anyone, immigrants, Medicaid children, Medicaid adults, Medicare, folks with no income whatsoever."
JMU will staff the health clinic with people who are bi-lingual, many of whom will speak Spanish or Russian as well as English.
