The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank got a few tons of help Monday from Wal-Mart.
The Food Bank received 36,000 pounds of food, an entire truck full, from the store. That's enough food to provide 28,000 meals to needy families in the area.
The donation was part of more than 3,000,000 meals donated by Wal-Mart throughout the nation.
Food bank employees say the donation is a much-needed help this time of year.
Ruth Jones says, "After the holidays, people tend to drop off in donations. So this will be a great boost for us to help push us throughout the remainder of the year as well."
Jones also says that donations are always welcome, because people need to eat 365 days a year, not just during the holidays.
