Max's Christmas Cards Wish

Kids' Christmas lists often include things like toys, games, and dolls.

But one boy doesn't want any of that - he only wants cards.

That little boy is in an Iowa hospital fighting for his life.

Back here at home, there is a college student who is helping to make his dream come true.

"Max, we love Christmas cards, too. We hope you have a wonderful Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year."

"Dear Max, I hope you get better. May God be with you at this time. Merry Christmas."

"Dear Max, best wishes this holiday season, and may your Christmas be filled with warmth and wonder."

Max is a 12-year old boy from Iowa who has leukemia. He has one wish this Christmas ---- well, a million.

“I felt like it was something that touched me, he wasn't asking for toys or money, he just wanted to have support all over the country,” says Krista Tatum.

How much support? Max wants to get a million cards this Christmas.

Krista Tatum is on a mission to make that happen.

“I first started telling a few people and told people there's this boy, he wants Christmas cards. I told all my friends, people I didn't know. I did some myself, then I thought I guess maybe I could make a Facebook page,” says Tatum.

Tatum said she started out receiving about 15 cards per day. Now? A few hundred is the norm.

Tatum grew up in Stephen’s City. She heard about Max's wish from a professor at WVU. She's a nursing student who knows what it's like to see someone you love fight cancer.

“Almost everybody except for our current generation has had either breast cancer, bone cancer. We've had colon, skin cancer,” says Tatum.

Tatum doesn't want responsibility for the cause. She just wants people to take something away from it.

“Words can't even describe because it has nothing to do with me, it's not benefiting me, it's all for somebody else and that's what the holidays are about,” says Tatum.

Tatum added that she's received cards from 23 states and from countries as far as China.
