Waynesboro public school teachers will most likely not get their desired salary raise because of a lower than usual budget this year.
According to the school district, Governor Tim Kaine is not offering a state salary increase for Virginia teachers, which has forced many school districts, such as Waynesboro, to try to compromise with their teachers.
Waynesboro assistant superintendent Vermell Grant says, "It's actually looking at the available resources and funding that we have and making a decision and it's a decision that’s based not just with the school division but also with the teachers and the community as a whole."
The teacher's association was looking at a five percent increase, but Grant says the number will likely be closer to 2.9 percent.
