A fire at Western State Hospital appears to have ripped through a building.
Fire crews say it started around 8:30 p.m., and plumes of smoke could be seen coming from a beige laundry service building.
Fire stations from around Augusta County responded to the scene, and the cause has yet to be identified. Fire officials are investigating it.
John Beghtol, Director of Community Services at Western State Hospital, says he's concerned about the damage that may have been done to the laundry service.
"The smoke and the clean linen in there and our ability to provide laundry services for our Western State patients, and also we service Woodrow Wilson and we service the Commonwealth Center for Children," says Beghtol.
