The city of Staunton decided Thursday night to approve hundreds of new historical markers along Route 11.

A group called the Wilderness Road Committee is pushing for the project.

They want state funding to install 1,000 signs with historical information, along the entire stretch of Route 11.

Staunton has signed off on the plan.

Now the group needs several dozen more communities to do the same.
