When it comes to weather, the Valley turned it's attention from snow to possible freezing rain and ice Thursday. These make for even more dangerous driving conditions.

Timmy Fitzgerald, Verona residency office, says, crews have been preparing all day for the expected slick roads.

Fitzgerald says the mix of salt and chemicals used Thursday night is more abrasive than the ones used for snow to help drivers with traction issues.

"We've been focusing on the interstates and primaries [streets]. So throughout the night, we'll be working on the secondary roads, plowing them, putting some chemical on them, and also monitoring the primaries and interstate as well," says Fitzgerald.

VDOT would like to remind drivers to take extreme caution when driving in slick road conditions Thursday night and Friday morning.
