The Alley Comes Home

Some area seniors might not be able to make it to the bowling alley on their own anymore, but that's not stopping all of them from playing a frame or two as a digital bowling alley comes to them.

The Nintendo Wii game system is a hit among seniors at the Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community. They're using it as a way to exercise and socialize.

Games they can play include tournaments of virtual tennis, golf, bowling and even a few rounds of boxing.

One retired resident, Mary Clancey, says, "It is fun with friends. It makes you feel good if you get it."

Another resident, Alice Borden, says, "My favorite part is that you don't have a nine pound ball in your hand."

Starting next month, Harrisonburg High School athletes will teach the community's residents how to use the Wii. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
